The dark night air held a distinct chill that seemed to settle over the world when the sun had set. It seemed to get inside of you and you couldn’t quite shake it, maybe it was merely the fact that the cold came with darkness. No sun to warm your face, or illuminate the darkness that envelopes the earth, but Alice refused to be frightened of the dark. Ever since she was little, she knew if she cried no one would come running so what was the use? Each time she felt the heart racing emotion of fear she swallowed hard and stared it down in stoic silence, well with the dark anyway. But tonight she felt something else. She was waling through a night time Central park, which hosted a whole different array of Characters. Granted the number of people was greatly diminished but those you did see…even in all of Alice’s stoic resilience she was glad she had her mutation.

Her black hair was down around her face and her pale blue eyes watched the world attentively. She hugged her jacket closer to her body, trying to keep the chill away. The park was illuminated by a pale yellow light from the large black lanterns that where strategically placed around the park. Who ever said that the city never sleeps was speaking the truth, even if their where few people out cars still bustled about and lights from every building illuminated the landscape. Even then Alice felt a strange over lying feeling. Something that made her weary, but unfortunately she couldn’t decide if it was her actual senses or just simple paranoia, what ever it was it was keeping her on her toes.

She stayed on a path between lines of trees that went about the whole park, it helped her feel covered. Why she was out she really didn’t know. She felt restless and fitful, the welsh girl wasn’t so sure she liked New York, but then she would smile and think Alice, what a great adventure. She smirked as she walked through the park and shoved her hands in her pockets, yes, it was a great adventure

When Wren had arrived at the Institute, she had been sure that there was no real reason behind the desire of the older residents to leave and explore anywhere they could reach. Everything she could have ever wanted seemed to be at her fingertips at the mansion and she’d enjoyed every moment of it. But eventually she’d been granted her own permission to leave as she wished and was surprised to find a desire to go outside the perimeter of the Institute’s campus on occasion. For the most part she would want to leave for a run, a change of environment for her typical workout.

That was why she was here tonight. Night had fallen and Wren had found herself dying for a good run. She thought about simply running around the grounds but had quickly declined that idea. She wanted something familiar and peaceful, at least more so than the grounds. So she’d decided on Central Park. She’d gone on night runs here numerous times, always on the look out for any need to engage her powers in the first sign of danger. She was used to New York, being very much aware of how dangerous things could get in this metropolis.

She turned down another trail, the song changing on her iPod. After a few more steps, Wren couldn’t help but slow. There was an odd chill running up her back, making the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. There was something that made her hyper-aware. Her mind flashed with memories of the last time she’d had a feeling like this, and what had happened to her before she was able to create enough power to protect herself. That had been a cold night, and her powers had failed her when she’d needed them most. They wouldn’t this time…

Her steps came to a halt, switching to a slow walk. Her hand moved to turn off her music, her eyes flickering around her. There was just something off all of a sudden. Her hand went to her side, her fingers fluttering to create sparks, warming up if she needed it. Out of the corner of her eye, Wren saw some movement and spun around, her hand flying up in preparation. She caught sight of a girl sharing the path with. A girl with dark black hair and a weary look on her somewhat familiar face. Wren kept her eyes on her, not getting any kind of sinister vibe from her. This girl couldn’t have been what was putting her on edge, so Wren’s stance relaxed slightly.

((Not sure if Alice would have been around the Institute enough for Wren to at least think she looked familiar...I put it in that she did, but I can edit it if I need to))

((no, its fine!))

Suddenly Alice heard music, and she spun around swiftly. She often heard music from peoples ipods as they walked by, sometimes she would listen in but usually she just tuned it out as best she could. She wasn't really interested in the horrid R&B choices made by the man running with out a shirt that probably needed to start investing in them, but she turned this time any way. It had been (relatively) silent on her stroll and she didn't like the feeling of something coming up behind her. As she turned she realized quickly that she knew the girl whose music had caught Alice off guard. Her pale eyes looked her over briefly as she relaxed a little. So she had never really talked to this girl, but they went to the same school right? So she couldn't be all that bad.

"So, can you feel the weird vibe to?" she asked, her Welsh accent ringing in her question. It was an honest one, an awkward way to start a conversation but Alice, being Alice, didn't really care.
