Zoey stood in the pouring ran with her three suitcases in one hand. It was lucky that she had super strength because this meant she could carry a lot of baggage without much effort. As Zoey stood in the pouring rain, she observed the outside of the school’s entrance. The school was protected by a big, black iron gate which had the name plate for the school on a brick wall next to it. In the distance, the school could be seen but it was very cleverly concealed by a few big oaks that were near the gate. The teenage mutant looked around for some sort of buzzer or something that she could talk through and ask someone to open the gate but at that thought, the big iron bars of the gate began to shudder and slowly but surely, the gate began to open. With her mouth opened wide in a gasp, Zoey stepped through the threshold and sighed. Finally, she was where she belonged at long last.

Zoey wasn’t expecting a welcome party but she at least expected someone to greet her at the door but nope, no sign of anyone. She didn’t want to annoy anyone so instead of standing outside like she had been for the past twenty minutes, Zoey made her own way into the giant mansion. From what she could see, the mansion was big enough to actually be a school but then again, it looked like a luxury home rather than a school. It was surrounded by neat bushes but inside was even more luxurious. There was vintage furniture all around the lobby which fitted in well with the mansion. There were a few ottomans and sofas scatted around the room and Zoey set her three suitcases down by a sofa and walked to the reception desk. There was a woman sat there filing her nails like the receptionist you see in films. ”Hello there I’m Zoey Anderson. I’m supposed to be starting today.” The girl said and waited for the receptionist to reply.”Okay dear, just take a seat and someone should be seeing you in a moment. Whether it’s a teacher or student I don’t know.” She said, murmuring the last part mainly to herself.

Zoey smiled sarcastically and went to sit down at one of the sofas. She crossed her arms and stared at a portrait of a man in a wheelchair. She couldn't really read the name plate that was underneath it but the man inside the picture looked very wise. Zoey guessed that he was a mutant otherwise he wouldn't be in the school at all but then her mind drifted and she thought about the people at the school. They better be nicer than that receptionist, otherwise I'm outta here. She thought as she twirled her thumbs and looked at her feet, completely bored out of her mind.

Tobin couldn’t believe his luck. He had been busted for smoking, which was apparently illegal from someone his age and not smart overall for someone of any age, so he would have to deal with any new students who arrived at the school without an escort. They weren’t many because most escorts escorted their mutants to school. However, every once and a while, students are asked to join the school, and they take some time to decide. Tobin wondered what held them back to their old life. What else would someone like him, a mutant, want then to be around others who understood what he or she was going through? Here at the Institute, mutants didn’t have to worry about fitting in. Instead, they were taking their time to get here. Some people were just crazy, in Tobin’s opinion.

Walking down the hallway to the Entry Way, Tobin straightened out his white button down shirt that he was wearing. It was tucked into his navy slacks, and he was sporting a navy tie. Idly, he wondered what Wren would think if she saw him like this, but he wasn’t able to follow that rabbit trail as he arrived in the Entry Way. Once there, Tobin looked at the receptionist who nodded towards the chairs that always lined the Entry Way. There was a young girl sitting in the chairs with her bags. That must have been the new girl he was supposed to meet. She seemed really young to be coming to school on her own, but they had students younger than her (or at least they looked younger) so he guessed it would be okay. She had long brown hair and brown eyes.

“Hi there,” Tobin said with a smile. “Welcome to the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. My name is Tobin Abernathy, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Institute.” Then, to show off a bit and to introduce his next topic, Tobin focused and changed his hair and eye color. What was once blonde and blue changed to match her brown for brown. “As you can see, we take higher learning rather differently than most people. You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t already know about how special you really are. I can manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum. We have students here who run incredibly fast, fly, burst into flame, or read minds. There’s no need to worry about hiding any of your uniqueness while you are here.” He let the illusion fade before moving towards her. “Can I carry your bag as we head to your dorm and get you settled in?”

Whilst Zoey admired the portrait of the bald man, a boy who was obviously older greeted her. It didn’t scare her that the sudden appearance of the boy was unexpected but she did jump high in the air, and landed on the ottoman that was in front of the sofa. She realised that she had been really stupid and the boy wasn’t really a threat at all; it was just her reflexes. She felt so stupid and embarrassed and felt her cheeks become hot and knew she was blushing. ”Oh my, I’m so sorry for doing that.” She said and jumped off the table and landed in front of the boy. ”It’s just my reflexes are a little on the sensitive side.” She said and laughed at herself, hoping that he would think it was funny. Living up in a boarding school, showing her powers usually cause other people to call her a freak or something like that but then again, she should fit in at this school full of ‘freaks’. Zoey didn’t really speak these thoughts being afraid of offending someone.

Zoey was brought up with manners so instead of sulking or being ignorant, she smiled and introduced herself. ”Hey Tobin, I’m Zoey, Zoey Anderson. Thank you for the welcome as well.” She said and looked at Tobin. He was definitely older with blonde hair and sea blue eyes, well that’s what they were until his hair colour changed to brown and his eyes brown too. Zoey opened her mouth and gasp. Did his eyes just change? She thought and blinked twice, thinking her mind was playing tricks on her; it obviously wasn’t. It was rude to keep her mouth open so she closed it to hide her amazement. The nerves that were on Zoey’s shoulders lifted when Tobin told her not to worry about her. It was good that there were people that were like her and finally she could make some friends that she could relate to.

Tobin then asked if he could take her bags and she giggled slightly. ”No, don’t worry about it.” She said with a smile. She walked back to suitcases and lifted them with one hand again. She walked back to Tobin with a big grin on her face. ”Super strength plus the reflexes.” She said and shrugged her shoulders. It was good to say what her powers were without anyone giving her a weird look or calling her names. She finally felt like a normal teenager.

((sorry it's a bit pants.))

Tobin flexed reflexively as the newcomer jumped into the air. It truly was reflexive, as his training was having an effect on him. Hours in the bunker and on the field were hardening him into a fighting machine, which Tobin didn’t know whether to be glad about or to be sad. Soon enough, he would be just like every other X-Men, walking around and doing what he was told. Blah blah blah. It wasn’t the ideal future that Tobin had in mind, but this wasn’t the time to think about that. The newcomer, little Ms. Eager, was explaining why she had jumped so high into the air. Tobin figured it had something to do with her powers because she had jumped rather high into the air, almost impossibly high, but Ms. Eager didn’t really allude to that connect, so Tobin just brushed it off.

Registering Ms. Eager’s name as Zoey Anderson, Tobin felt slightly amused to see her face as he changed his hair and eye colors. The gasp was rather satisfactory as well, but Tobin couldn’t leave it at that. He was required to calm her and to explain that she was safe, so he did. Still, he did enjoy her surprise. However, Tobin didn’t appreciate the laugh that Zoey gave him when he asked to carry her bags. He was just being polite. When the little girl picked the bags up with one hand, Tobin let out a low whistle. Zoey explained to him what her powers, and Tobin nodded in understanding. That explained the jump and the suitcases.

“Well, shall we begin the walk to the dorms? I can give you a minor tour too as we walk.” Tobin motioned for her to begin in the right direction, and he followed alongside her. “This mansion belonged to the found of the Xavier Institute, Charles Xavier. I believe you saw his picture in the hallway back there. He believed that humans and mutants could live together, regardless of the history that he lived through.” Tobin took a breath to calm his ranting. Zoey was new and impressionable. It wouldn’t be fair of him to push his ideas on her. “Over here, we have the sitting room, a great hangout spot to read and think.” They continued walking he pointed out the kitchens, dining room, and the library. They ended at the foot of the stairs that led to the dormitories. “So I know that was really quick,” Tobin told Zoey. “Do you have any questions about this level of the mansion?”
